submissions 

submissions are currently open!
we encourage all who plan to submit to look at our author rights page.

how it works

  • after a theme is announced, submissions will be open for about 4 weeks!

  • you can expect to hear back from us after about three weeks. if you haven't heard back by then, please send us an email. we appreciate your patience!

  • in the following month, we will be working on producing an online publication. sign up to our newsletter to get updates about when we plan to release the online publication! 

follow these steps to submit

  1. fill out a google form for your submission type. 

  2. include a 75-100 word third-person bio, as well as a 75-100 word explanation of how your submission relates to this month's theme. 

  3. indicate if you would like to receive feedback. we would love to provide our thoughts and suggestions, but only if you want us to provide them! 

  4. read our guidelines for each submission type carefully. 

more information: 

  • please only submit if you are 14-24 years old.

  • homophobic, sexist, racist, or any other inappropriate content will be deleted immediately. love letters magazine is a platform that accepts all. 

  • please include trigger warnings if necessary. 

  • we accept simultaneous submissions! 

  • all work must be original work! 

theme
our theme! 

  • issue 10's theme is: hygge! 

  • what's something that brings you comfort? when you imagine getting cozy for winter, what do you see? who do you see? the danish word 'hygge' doesn't have a direct translation to english, but essentially it represents coziness, warmness and welcoming. you can read more about it in this op-ed or on our instagram. what makes you feel warm and safe? as winter approaches, it's important we take time for ourselves and build a life as 'hygge' as possible.

  • ​remember: we aren't looking for the direct response to our theme; as long as you can explain that your creation is about 'hygge', we will believe you! 

  • we trust you to be creative and send us your best work :) 

prose
for prose: 

  • please attach up to three stories as pdf, word doc, or google doc attachments.

  • we prefer short stories that are 2,000 words or less and flash fiction pieces that are 500 words or less.

  • write a 75-100 word third-person bio and 75-100 word explanation of how your submission relates to this month's theme in the google form.

poetry
for poetry: 

  • please attach up to three poems in the same document as pdf, word doc, or google doc attachments. 

  • write a 75-100 word third-person bio and 75-100 word explanation of how your submission relates to this month's theme in the google form. 

songs
for songs: 

  • lyrical:

    • please attach as many songs as you like anywhere between 3-5 minutes long.

    • please attach the song/s as mp3 attachment/s. 

    • please attach a pdf, word doc, or google doc of your lyrics and muse or inspiration for the song.

    • write a 75-100 word third-person bio and 75-100 word explanation of how your submission relates to this month's theme in the google form.

  • instrumental:

    • please attach as many songs as you like anywhere between 3-7 minutes long.

    • please attach the song/s as mp3 attachment/s.

    • please attach a pdf, word doc, or google doc of your muse or inspiration for the song. feel free to describe the meaning behind certain elements! 

    • write a 75-100 word third-person bio and 75-100 word explanation of how your submission relates to this month's theme in the google form. 

art
for art: 

  • please attach 1-3 art pieces as .jpeg or .png attachments.

  • we are open to any kind of art: drawings, paintings, collages, etc. as long as it is original and creative!

  • write a 75-100 word third-person bio and 75-100 word explanation of how your submission relates to this month's theme in the google form. 

photograhy
for photography: 

  • please attach any amount of photos as .jpeg or .png attachments.

  • we are open to any kind of photography, as long as it is original! 

  • if there are any people in your photos, please make sure they gave their consent about having the photos published.
